Our First Fishing Experience As you might have deduced from having looked through the section on fishing, we love to fish. When I say “we” I mean everyone. My 82 year old mother loves to fish. My 6 month granddaughter loves to fish, she just doesn’t know it yet. When we pulled down the driveway that Easter Sunday, my wife, daughter and I stood next to the Guest House looking down into the water, and noticed what looked like torpedoes gliding through the water. Long, sleek, black tubes moving in all directions, we were sure we counted 10 or more at a time. Of course it did not take long to realize we were seeing fish, and some of those fish were very big! Our family got together in Sunrise Beach at the title company the day of the closing, then headed directly for Shawnee Bend 3. We unpacked the items we brought, did some light house setup, and then we went fishing. That first weekend we caught bluegill, buffalo, crappie, channel cat, blue cat, largemouth bass, and a 24 lbs. German carp. Granted, carp are not a desirable species, and I would not fish for them intentionally, but at the time I was fishing for bream to use as bait, and all of a sudden my pole doubled over and line started stripping off the reel. From the Guest House, that carp went all the way to the neighbor’s dock on the right and all the way to our dock on the left. I thought it would break the line as I was fishing with 4 lbs test, however it did not. The fish made 4 big runs at getting away, and finally came in, floating on its side, to the ramp below the Guest House. That was my first big fish experience at Our Place, and it was a whole lot of fun!
